“Whether you come for lunch or dinner, for Sunday Funday Brunch or for just a few drinks… whether you are LBGTQ+ or an ally…whether you are local or visiting… whether you come with a group or venture out solo… you will have a memorable experience with the most talented crew in South Florida. “Rosie’s Bar and Grill has been a tropical oasis in the middle of the Island City, Wilton Manors, since 2006, offering amazing food and refreshing drinks and sassy fun,” the bar’s website states. Rosie’s Bar website shows these items on the menu, but it’s unclear if the children were offered the same menu.
“They learn about the types of jobs involved in operating a restaurant, how to pay for their meal, and how to leave a tip for the service they receive,” the statement read.īecause apparently, just going to Applebee’s wasn’t good enough.See also Democrat Bill Legalizing Abortion Through All Nine Months, For Virtually Any Reason, Fails In Senate
The school district is now defending the trip, saying the whole thing was simply a way for kids to see how a restaurant operates at a locally owned establishment. The restaurant also stated kids were given an “appropriate” menu that left off the more risque items. If that weren’t enough, it turns out the school had actually been taking students to the restaurant for the past decade, leaving Rosie’s owners confused as to why parents are so upset. I was SO honored to be invited to chaperone field trip to the incredible Rosie’s! The students and I had a fun walk over and learned a lot about our community! A huge thank you to for hosting this special field trip every year! /A3rpMbyUJP
Photos from the trip were posted online by Broward School District 3 School Board Member and high school teacher Sarah Leonardi, who helped chaperone the trip to the restaurant that features items like the “Left One” chicken breast sandwich, the "Booty Call," the “Miley High Club” and the “Young Ranch Hand.” The diner/bar - which has since complained about being labeled a "gay bar" - is reportedly known as a local hangout for LGBTQ customers, which apparently make up the vast majority of the restaurant's clientele. Parents were livid after finding out their kids, students at Wilton Manors Elementary School, were taken on a field trip to Rosie’s Bar and Grill, a local eatery that caters to the LGBTQ-LMNOP community and includes a number of.let's just say, maturely nick-named menu items. Which, apparently, one teacher in Broward County, Florida, entirely missed. Now imagine that, instead of one of these perfectly acceptable choices for prepubescent youth, you decide to take them to….a gay bar.Ĭan’t imagine that? Good – that likely means you were in line the day they handed out shreds of sanity. Options might include the zoo, a children’s museum, perhaps a science center. Now imagine you’re tasked with taking your class on a couple of field trips each year. Your students range in age from, say, 5 years old in kindergarten and 10 years old – maybe 11 – by the end of fifth grade. Imagine this: you’re an elementary teacher.
